My mother used to work for an insurance company, and was an operator at a telephone station. This station was shared with other workers on other shifts, and so all the equipment was shared. My mother developed a serious ear infection from one of the headsets due to improper cleaning methods used by one of the other employees, was hospitalized, and now is partially deaf in that ear. It was because of this ‘injury’ that she lost her job – she was in the hospital so long that her employers laid her off. My mother did pursue legal proceedings regarding this incident and the company was eventually fined.

2) Injuries, accidents, or deaths can easily be prevented in the workplace through education! Educating workers about safety is the most important thing within the workplace. Safety precautions should always be taken even in the safest of workplaces, simply because accidents can happen anywhere at any time, if someone is not paying attention. Any machinery or equipment being used should be inspected regularly, and cleaned regularly if possible. Workers should participate in safety demonstrations and training to better prepare them and equip them with the tools to either avoid accidents completely or else properly and efficiently deal with any such accidents that could occur. If necessary, protective equipment must be worn.
